Hi,
My name is Ashley and I am here to help you with your dressage journey. Do you ever feel stuck with your riding? Maybe you feel like every ride with your horse is a fight? Maybe you are out trying to show and keep picking up the wrong canter lead and losing points! Or maybe you are looking for someone to help you with the correct biomechanics because you went to a clinic with someone your bestie RAVED about and the clinician tried to tie your horse's head down, and that made you feel really upset and uncomfortable.
I am not going to do that with you or your horse. I am a classical dressage trainer located in Statesville, North Carolina and I teach ALL ages from kids to adults (we have lesson horses available) and I have worked with many different breeds of horses with many behavioral issues.
Our kid lesson program focuses on teaching the correct balance, safety, and equitation for your child to have a solid and effective seat. Our adult lesson program teaches the detail that you have been searching for so you can effectively ride your horse.
Riding dressage is like a conversation. You ask a question, and the horse responds. If you really want to understand the mechanics, I am the trainer for you! I use in-hand work to teach the riders and the horse correct biomechanics. In fact, I LOVE in hand work so if you have a question or would like to learn more don't hesitate to reach out.
Have you heard of the thoracic sling? This is quite the buzzword in dressage now. It's the area around the spine muscles in the neck. I can teach you really simple exercises before you ride to reduce the under carriage and increase the topline in your horse's neck.
Does your horse have a bulging underneck? When horses have a bulging underneck they can use that against you for rearing, bucking, and bolting. If you teach a horse to brace through the neck it will catch up with you later when you ask your horse for collection and instead of bending the joints of the hind leg they brace and use the neck against you.
Do you understand the shoulder sling of the horse? This is all the muscles in the ribcage and shoulders. My training will help develop stamina in the shoulder sling for upper level work.
Do you ever have trouble cantering your horse? Your canter muscle is behind the withers of the horse. It's the shoulder muscle that you find from doing turns and spirals. The shoulder sling has to lift to canter your horse, otherwise you have a lope or gallop.
And then there is the hindquarters. My training will help you find strength and activity behind.
This is not magikal or secret or Jesus juice. These are just the correct basics I will teach you in your first lesson with me or I will instill in your horse the first day of training when you send a training horse to me.
I also LOVE starting young horses!
I teach them in a progressive and kind way so they have a positive experience and learn to be teachable.
Little details, leadership, groundwork, and in-hand work can all make a huge difference in starting a young horse.
I teach them to be ON THE AIDS.
I use in hand work to teach them the body parts and help them understand each part to progress smoothly in training.
What sets me apart?
I am patient and kind teacher and trainer. When I start a young horse I add these details from the beginning.
I teach them not to shorten the stride when you pick up contact.
I teach them not to brace and stiffen the neck when you ask a question.
I teach the young horse to step up into the trot with their hind leg properly from the beginning.
I teach them to be supple and not hit the bit.
You have 2 options when you send a horse out for training. You can buy the cheapest option and give your horse an OKAYYYY start.
Or you can pay for quality training that emphasizes the correct biomechanics so it doesn't bite you in your As.s later when you are trying to collect your horse and do upper level dressage.
So what are you waiting for?
